Well, I’d take it as a compliment that you think Takamina’s vocals are good enough for her to exist as a soloist in the cut-throat J-Pop entertainment on her own. Unlike many aspiring-to-leave-AKB girls who are going for the actress route, it’s at least heartwarming to know that someone who’s rather against Takamina (the feeling I got from this confession) would think she’s capable enough to forge a route out there alone now.
Idol-like. Despite being an “idol-group”, how many of them are actually what you call, idol-like? Well, although what defines an idol differs from people to people, but I’d like to think that’s mostly the “pretty/cute, prim&proper, soft-spoken, seemingly weak and defenceless” stereotype. With that said, how many of the 230+ 48Family members are really like that? A handful maybe, but definitely more than half that’s hardly “idol-like”. TBH, even in Senbatsu, how many “idol-like” are there? Haruna definitely, Acchan Mayuyu wTomomi Rena maybe. Like seriously? If you want to find the “idol-like”, despite me not even knowing the 48family well, I don’t think the 48family is the one fandom you should get into.
Fake, obnoxious and unattractive?
I can find you a handful more within the ones in 48 that I’d prolly rank them even worse than Takamina. Fake? Seriously? U know what you see on TV is the 100% real personality of them? And honeslty, fake…coming from a coward who’s anonymous behind a computer complaining about an amazing captain? :/
Obnoxious - Annoying, offensive and showoff. Are you serious? Why offensive? If that’s based on the one video that she snapped back at the MC, well, maybe. But one video is all you need to judge her on? And showoff?! I wish she would show-off more of what she can/cannot do, so that she’ll be in the spotlight more for who she is and not “AKB48 captain” or “Team A captain”. Annoying? Maybe. When they kept harping on her fails…but that’s not even her speaking. :/
That said…
I don’t know how someone can be fake and not idol-like, cus from what I’d assume, people usually are fake, just so they can be idol-like and loved by the fans. I’ve the honour of meeting Takamina once, when she came to Singapore, when I just got into the fandom. I was very much impressed and wowed by her and that made me into the AKB fan that I am today. I was still rather apprehensive about the group/fandom when I met her.
I was near her resting room, which me and like 3 friends were chilling when she came out. Well, we didn’t really want to intrude on her but it’s a public place (there’s like 8324792834 other people there who’s dancing, chilling and just hanging out since it’s a place for people to hangout) so it’s not that bad. We’ve our computers out n facing the hallway that led to her room which wrote encouraging words and I am the only Takamina oshi there. The last of the computers was showing a funny gif of her which is meant to troll her for a bit (I’ve tumblred it before) and when she came out, she acknowledged us and read all the messages we wrote out loud. And she screamed when she saw the last gif. LOL But that said, she was totally amazing; if not one of the most amazing AKB48 member I met (though I’ve not met many). She read out the messages and mine wrote “Even though I dont know Japanese, I like you the most” and the friends told her its from me when she asked who wrote it. And she looked at me in the eye, took a step closer n thanked me. At the handshake after the cafe event, she remembered me and saw a bunch of Japanese that I hardly understood. And at the airport, she remembered and said something to me which …. other than like 3 times of Thank you, I’ve no idea what she said. -_-
She’s one of the real-est you can ever get from the 48family, one of the most sincere, one of the most thankful and if not, one of the most talented member. No one is indispensable in the 48 family. However, if AKB48 lose any member, especially the Senbatsu members, it would be hard to cope, but people can always find a new oshimen. If AKB48 lose Takahashi Minami, it would be hard to cope, but they will make it through, but it will be a lot more challenging to keep the team together and proceed forth without her. She’s not the most popular, not the most idol-like, not the sexiest/prettiest/cutest, and even to some, not the best captain. But she’s one of the few who can be who she is to a far extend yet do what she believed in despite it might be a hit to her popularity (eg: saying no to doing gravure) and do well, if not far exceeding expectations, for what she’s suppose to do (being a captain, being a singer, being a team player, being an AKB48 member).
She’s my oshi. I am not from the West. I am sorry she’s not idol-like, and unappealing to some. But she’s my oshi. And therefore…
I am very proud to say, I am a Takahashi Minami oshi and I’ll stand by her and write shitlong posts to defence her although she’ll never know about it. (:
